A factory-like space housing a roastery and cafe.

This cafe and roaster’s name is based on a Yemeni legend: a sheik named Omar was bordering on starvation after being exiled. As he trailed through the desert, he noticed a bird chomping on coffee beans.

After failing to ingest the beans, Omar decided to boil them. He discovered a revitalising brown concoction, similar to what we know now as coffee.

Omar and the Marvellous Coffee Bird pays homage to the original Omar with its education-based approach to coffee. Here, the team can help you decide on the right cup of coffee or bag of beans, or refer you to one of its brew classes in the neighbouring space Next Door.

But right here, coffee comes any way you want it: in a coffee dripper (ideal for sharing), or as your regular latte or espresso. All of Omar’s coffee blends are available for purchase.

The refined vibe also extends to the menu, which includes a clutch of affordable and satisfying options. It might be be sugar plum tomatoes with house-made labneh and mint on sourdough; or grilled banana bread with toasted nuts, and honey and cinnamon labneh.

It’s easy to mistake Omar’s for a factory. The 27-seat space has an industrial fit-out with joinery by Will Loft at Loft Et Cetera. It’s made up of metal structures and wooden counters holding grinders that never seem to stop growling.
