TL;DR

From City to Coast

Nagasaki-born and Osaka-raised chef Tomo Ezaki made his mark at Ocha in Melbourne’s Kew before trading city life for a sea change in Inverloch in 2007. Since then, he’s been drawing loyal fans from Melbourne and winning over locals with a broad menu of both traditional and modern Japanese dishes.

A Menu That Delivers

At Tomo’s, you’ll find everything from crispy tsutsumi age (deep-fried prawn dumplings) and artfully sliced sashimi to soft-shell crab and sweet miso-glazed grilled black cod. For those who like a bit of heat, the sautΓ©ed salmon served on wasabi mashed potatoes and topped with a wasabi-tinted tartare sauce is a standout.

Perfect Pairings

Pair your meal with Sapporo on tap, locally sourced wines, or explore the selection of Japanese whiskies and sake.

Seasonal Comforts

In winter, Ezaki’s warming udon soups are a highlight, while year-round favourites include yakisoba, donburi, and the lunchtime Bento Box – a generous spread of sashimi, tempura, prawn dumplings, rice, and miso soup.

Sweet Endings and Seasonal Settings

Be sure to leave room for dessert – his crepes are so good, some claim they rival those in France. During the cooler months, settle into the cosy dining room. In summer, the bamboo-lined courtyard offers a serene spot to enjoy gyoza and sake under the stars.
