Aromi: Refined Italian with Heart
Aromi blends refined Italian cooking with a relaxed, neighbourhood feel, spotlighting fresh Victorian produce and keeping imported ingredients to a minimum. Inspired by the regional roots of owners Paolo Masciopinto (Piemonte) and Salvator Montella (Napoli), the restaurant strikes a balance between elegance and comfort, with its striking black granite communal table, grey marble bar, and textured leather seating.
Stuzzichini, Duck, and Signature Pastas
The menu begins with stuzzichini (small bites), such as gnocco frittoβcrispy fried dough wrapped in house-made Wagyu bresaola and filled with smoky scamorza cheese. Larger plates often feature Gippsland duck in various seasonal preparations, as well as a standout selection of pastas: silky pumpkin tortelli, chestnut flour pappardelle, and tomato-infused spaghetti topped with spanner crab and toasted macadamia.
Dessert Meets Design
For dessert, Aromiβs centrepiece is a creative spin on the classic monte bianco. Masciopintoβs version layers hazelnut shortcrust, frangipane, and house-made candied chestnuts beneath a perfect swirl of chestnut purΓ©eβpresented atop a spinning record player for added visual flair.
A Wine List with Local Soul
The wine list is compact but thoughtfully curated, with 24 bottles representing Italy, Europe, and a few local producers. Local craft beers, such as Red Hill Pilsner, round out the drinks selection.
