Melbourne’s Lebanese bakery icon

Since 1992, A1 Bakery has been a cornerstone of Sydney Road, setting the standard for Lebanese baked goods in Melbourne. Over the years, it has expanded with two additional outposts in Fairfield and Fitzroyβ€”the latter taking over the former Tora Dumplings site.

A smaller slice in Fitzroy

While the original Brunswick location boasts ample seating, multiple counters, and a grocery section, the Fitzroy store is a more compact, takeaway-focused spot. There are a couple of benches and stools by the window, offering around 15 seats in total.

Crisp pies and pita wraps, baked daily

The menu features all the A1 favourites: crisp spinach triangles, Lebanese pizzas, haloumi and shanklish pies, chicken pita wraps, and falafel plattersβ€”all baked fresh throughout the day in a hardworking gas oven.

Coffee, groceries, and family tradition

Coffee is made using beans from Versano Coffee, A1’s long-time supplier, and like the Sydney Road flagship, you’ll find a small selection of pantry staples available to take home.

Now in the second generation

Now in its second generation, A1 is run by brothers Haikal, Daniel, and Anthony Raji, who have taken over the business from their parents, Elias and Nadia Raji Farah, along with their aunt and uncle, Nouha and Chafic Choueiri.
