Removed from the hustle and bustle of Sydney Road is little oasis, Acustico. The cosy dining space is fitted with an array of quirky vintage furniture pieces; there’s a broken down piano, retro leather lounges, 1950’s diner-style tables and chairs, and a stage spotlight that dimly illuminates the room.

Revelling in a passion for hospitality (and apathy to pursue a white collar job), El Salvadorian born Diego Iraheta opened Acustico as a means of tapping into Melbourne’s ever-evolving alternative and artistic community. The cafe has since been taken over by chefs and brothers Giuseppe and Jeremy Massa.

Making an effort to be environmentally friendly and sustainable, the cafe uses biodegradable coffee cups, the walls feature recycled wooden panels, and there’s a veggie and herb garden that flourishes in front of the store in the warmer months.

Most options on the menu are vegetarian, including breakfast favourites such as smashed avocado on toast, baked eggs, quesadilla and croissants; each infused with unique Latin American flavours.
