A Minimalist Philosophy in Name and Space
The name Aka Siro means βred and white,β a nod to the restaurantβs clean, minimal approach. That same simplicity runs through its cozy, functional design β and its food.
Comforting Japanese Set Meals
The menu is full of comforting Japanese staples β dishes you could easily eat a few times a week without getting bored. There are 11 teishoku (set meals) to choose from, each served with unlimited steamed rice, a delicate miso soup, and a crisp salad of cabbage, iceberg lettuce, and cucumber, dressed in a tangy carrot-vinegar dressing thatβs surprisingly addictive.
Fresh Daily Rotations
Daily rotating side dishes, like sardines with pickled cucumber or sautΓ©ed slippery jack mushrooms, keep things interesting.
Something for the Meat Lovers
Meat lovers can dig into slow-cooked pork belly with daikon in a sweet sake sauce, pork grilled in egg and flour with Japanese barbecue sauce and mayo, or a classic tonkatsu β simply described on the menu as βvery popular deep-fried pork cutlet.β
A Touch of Fusion
Thereβs also a bit of Western fusion in the Hamburg steak β a beef and pork patty topped with tomato and Worcestershire-style sauce.
Drinks and Vegetarian Options
Vegetarian options are available too, and the short, sweet drinks list includes Karita paper drip coffee, specialty teas, grape juice, and house-made lemonade.
