A craft gin distillery in North Geelong’s Federal Mills Precinct.

Dervilla McGowan and Sebastian Reaburn started their small-batch gin company Anther Gin in 2016. A microbiologist and a hospitality professional respectively, they shared a love of nature and science and came together to create a gin brand with a focus on plants.

Each of Anther’s gins is made with the botanicals of an Australian native plant. The award-winning mainstay, Anther Gin, is juniper-heavy and spiked with eucalyptus, lemon gum and finger limes, while the Anther Goddess Strength (a homage to astronomer Maria Mitchell) is a navy-strength gin with flavours of saltbush and soft vanilla anise.

At Anther Gin’s red-bricked warehouse-style distillery in North Geelong’s historic woollen mills (now repurposed and called the Federal Mills Precinct), you can sample all the award-winning drops and learn more about the brand, including the science behind it all. A tasting board includes three different gins with matching tonics and botanicals, or you can grab a three-course cocktail tasting board.

Check the website before you head off: while the cellar door is open during the week, the bar (and tastings) usually only run on weekends.
