TL;DR

From Kerala to the Dandenong Ranges

Babaji’s Kitchen is a colourful and welcoming South Indian restaurant tucked away in the Dandenong Ranges, run by husband-and-wife duo Billy and Max. The journey began in Kerala, India – Max’s home state – where they originally opened a beachside eatery. After relocating to Melbourne, they brought their flavours to local markets as a street food stall, which proved so popular it led to the opening of this permanent spot in Belgrave. (The street food stall still pops up at festivals across Victoria.)

Authentic Keralan Street Food

The menu is packed with bold and authentic Keralan street food, with plenty of choices for meat lovers, vegetarians, and vegans. Highlights include crispy dosas with house-made relish, a daily-changing thali platter with five South Indian curries, and the fan-favourite Pani Puri Bombs – crisp shells filled with spiced potato, chickpeas, onions, chutneys, and mint water.

A Feast for the Senses

Inside, the restaurant is bursting with vibrant touches – colourful plates, lanterns, and festive decor overhead – creating a warm and lively atmosphere. It's open every day for lunch and dinner, and is a popular choice for both locals and tourists. Group bookings are welcome, making it a great spot for celebrations and gatherings.
