A New Kind of Local
Tamlyn Martinovich-Faulkner—previously of the now-closed A Fan’s Notes—wanted to recreate the kind of pub he grew up with: a welcoming local where people could eat a few times a week without breaking the bank. That idea became Ballard’s, a fully vegan pub where it’s rare to find anything on the menu over $25.
Plant-Based, Packed with Flavour
The menu changes frequently with the seasons, but past highlights have included beer-battered artichoke “fish” and chips, Korean-style shiitake “steak” burgers, and inventive small plates like baby carrots with seaweed butter or salt-baked beetroot with dill ricotta and pickled turnip. Gnocchi lovers will be glad to know there’s always at least one handmade version on offer.
Wines Worth Exploring
Ballard’s vegan wine list features over 30 selections, many of them organic, biodynamic, unfiltered, or wild-fermented.
Pull Up a Seat
Grab a glass and find a spot at the bar, settle into a cozy booth, or head out back to the beer garden, where you might stumble upon live music or an outdoor film night.
