One of the city’s most prolific bar owners is behind this pint-sized bar and bottle-o. Like a mini wine library, Bijou invites you to grab a table, peruse its floor-to-ceiling wine shelves and settle in to watch the world go by.

Bijou is a pint-sized bottle shop and bar that threatens to spill out onto the street. The tiny spot has an old-school feel with custom library-inspired wine shelves and a name that references a long-gone 19th-century theatre. The space’s big windows and tall ceilings are what first captivated owner Ben Luzz, who’s also behind Black Kite Commune, Gin Palace, Bar Ampere.

Drinkers here can browse the shelves and choose from a wide, rotating wine selection that always includes local and international pinot noir and shiraz, alongside less common styles like garganega. All bottles are available for both drink-in and take away, while there’s a small by-the-glass list, too. Bijou also has a svelte cocktail menu headlined by its namesake (gin, sweet vermouth, chartreuse) and classics like the Old Fashioned and Sazerac.

Ensuring drinkers stay comfortably nestled, Bijou’s blackboard lists wine-friendly snacks. You might find chicken liver parfait, charcuterie boards or a confit garlic, caramelised onion and three-cheese toastie that begs to be paired with a glass of crisp white wine.
