A New York-Inspired Bagel Shop with Local Charm

Jess and Ryan Kurban opened Bissel B. after their third trip to New York, where the bagel culture left a lasting impression. Their cosy, emerald-toned café brings that spirit to Melbourne with a playful menu full of nods to the Big Apple.

Bagels with Personality and Place

The menu is packed with character. The Brooklyn is loaded with pastrami, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, house pickles and horseradish mayo. The New Yorker channels pizza-shop vibes with mozzarella, Napoli sauce, salami and fresh basil. And the essential Lox & Schmear features house-cured salmon and a dill-and-caper cream cheese.

Soft, Lighter Bagels — Not the Chewy Kind

Instead of the dense chewiness of traditional New York bagels, Bissel B. serves a softer, more approachable style made by Savion Cakes & Bagels in Elsternwick. Choose from plain, poppyseed, sesame, onion or a well-loved “everything” bagel.

A Little Something for Everyone

“Bissel” means “a little bit” in Yiddish — a fitting name for a spot that caters to a wide range of tastes. Gluten-free and plant-based options are available, making it easy for anyone to find their perfect bite.
