This bakery has been a Fitzroy North Village since 2005. Its versatility is its greatest strength: the excellent sourdough is bolstered by a line-up that includes plenty of pastries and gluten-free cakes. Don't miss the hot cross buns at Easter-time.
Founded in 2005 and located in what has since become North Fitzroy Village, Dench has never failed to charm us with its organic flour sourdough breads, friendly service and good cafe menu.
The thing that keeps Dench great is the consistency of its products, from the “house” white bread, to the olive and rosemary breads, to the seasonal fruit pastries and the gluten-free cakes.
These days, John and Tony Dench’s treats are baked offsite to allow for the demand of the business’ wholesale arm, and the cafe has grown accordingly.
If anything though, this enhances your experience, as it allows the onsite kitchen to produce even more breakfast and lunch options, as well as terrific take-home meals.
