Distal Phalanx first opened in 2014 in the back room of the Liberty Social nightclub (since closed) where partygoers would stop by for a chat and find an outfit for the night. Not a bad concept.
Nowadays, the store occupies a quieter space on the fifth floor of the iconic Nicholas Building. The customer base hasn’t changed much, though. People come here to find progressive and experimental clothing picked from a host of international, emerging and independent labels.
This is where you’ll find brands you might follow online but haven’t had the opportunity to touch. Distal Phalanx is the exclusive Australian stockist for labels including MEAT, Maria ke Fisherman, Andrea Crews, Nattofranco, Moses Gauntlett Cheng, and DRINKSCANCODE.
You can expect smatterings of latex and mesh, as well as pieces where streetwear meets high fashion, and clothes that defy category or description all together. The offering is staunchly unisex.
Also available is a rotating stack of magazines, as well as merch, tapes and vinyl from local and international artists.
