A charming establishment with a rustic touch.

Step off the platform at Fairfield train station and walk past the shadow of the six-metre-tall wooden dog (FIDO) keeping watch, onto Railway Place. A little further along lies Fifteen Pounds.

It’s rustic – a recycled shipping pallet serves as a communal table, untreated tree branches decorate the walls, and wooden crates of fresh vegetables and fruit sit behind the counter.

Large windows allow generous sunlight to drench the interior and with a combination of individual stools and larger tables means Fifteen Pounds caters for both the lone diner and the larger group.

Breakfast and lunch options are as diverse as the hash-brown stack with mushrooms, spinach, cherry tomatoes, hollandaise; Mexican chilaquiles (tortilla chips tossed with jalapeño, manchengo, chorizo and pulled pork) and an intriguing salad of swimmer crab, avocado, daikon and caviar.

Blackboards display inspirational quotes alongside the expansive menu, which includes appealing desserts and drinks, including Campos coffee as pour-over or cold-drip, Larsen & Thompson teas and plenty of fresh juices.
