This Palm Springs-inspired rooftop has room for 400 punters. If you’re chasing a very good Martini or Whiskey Sour in the CBD, this place has you covered. It also serves a tight selection of low-and-slow American barbeque, courtesy of Fancy Hank’s downstairs.

Good Heavens, a rooftop bar above Fancy Hank’s, is the biggest of its kind in the CBD – with room for 400 punters. And it always draws a crowd, whether it’s balmy or chilly, sunny or overcast.

Sister venue Fancy Hank’s, which shares a stairwell with Good Heavens, takes care of the food, so smoked brisket party pies, salt and vinegar potato cakes, and buffalo wings with yoghurt ranch might all on the menu.

But the main focus here is cocktails. The list is littered with old favourites such as an Old Fashioned, a Whiskey Sour and a Negroni, as well as a dedicated list of Martinis. Many classics have been given an upgrade: the Old Fashioned might be spiked with smoked orange bitters or salted caramel syrup, for example, and the downstairs smoker is used to smoke syrups. Plus, there’s an expansive wine list, cocktails on tap and some 40 beer taps.

Mismatched iron chairs add flecks of colour to the dozens of high tables, which together ensure that no one will miss a spot at knockoff drinks. Come winter, a big scene-stealing fireplace at the centre of the new area will be a nice spot to cosy up to. A large section of the rooftop is also weather-proof – protected, but not enclosed, by a giant angular awning. And there are blue skylights throughout, so it always feels like it’s summer.
