TL;DR

A Sydney Road Staple Since 2004

Green Refectory has been a much-loved spot for fresh cafΓ© fare on Sydney Road since 2004. It all started with owner Sandy Green’s passion for bakingβ€”especially her signature pavlovaβ€”and the cafΓ© has only grown from there. These days, you can pick up whole cakes like Mars Bar cheesecake, classic pavlovas, and a tasty flourless orange and poppy seed.

From Cakes to Chalkboard Classics

The counter is always packed with sweet treatsβ€”biscuits, cakes, pastries, and pidesβ€”while the menu stretches across four big chalkboards, offering generous breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. Think all-day burritos, bircher muesli, and eggs made just the way you like. They’ve also got gluten-free and vegan choices to keep everyone happy.

A Courtyard Full of Vibes

The place is always buzzing, with a steady flow of customers (lots of students, too) heading out to the casual, leafy courtyard out the back. Chill music floats through the cafΓ© and out to the tram stop right outsideβ€”Stop 20 on the 19 line to North Coburg, if you're wondering.

A Hidden Gem with Heart

There’s no flashy signageβ€”just an Illy Coffee sign and the word "Green" on the window. But inside, Green Refectory is full of life, flavor, and personality. It's the kind of spot where the food speaks for itself.
