Izakaya by Tamura is the latest offering from Fumi and Takako Tamura—the duo behind cult-favourite Tamura Sake Bar. Set in a spacious bluestone building once home to Mamma Vittoria’s and Lazerpig, this relaxed Japanese-style bar and eatery now hosts up to 150 guests across two levels.

Izakaya Classics and Hidden Gems

Takako leads the kitchen with a menu that balances crowd-pleasing staples—gyoza, karaage fried chicken, sushi and katsu—with lesser-known gems like unakyu (grilled eel with cucumber) and takowasa (raw octopus with wasabi). Lunchtime offers a more casual selection: ramen, donburi rice bowls, and sushi favourites.

Drinks with a Japanese Twist

The drinks menu is just as creative. Expect cocktails infused with Japanese flavours—think a martini with pickle brine, the Toki Doki with Japanese whisky, and the Cho Bri Bri Club, made with lychee-pomegranate shrub. There’s also a solid natural wine list and Japanese-inspired beers, including a rice lager brewed locally with Stomping Ground.
