Jackson Dodds: A Local Favourite with Small Block Roots
Since opening in 2010, Jackson Dodds grew out of Brunswick East’s extended Small Block family, founded by former Small Block barista Cameron Willis and his wife Jackie. Now owned by hospitality veteran Jason Mazzacca, previously of Village Chef Bakery/Deli in Essendon, the café continues to thrive under his experienced guidance.
Thoughtful All-Day Dining on the Corner of Union Street
The menu is warm and thoughtfully crafted for all-day dining, featuring a rotating selection of specials alongside Coffee Supreme’s organic fair-trade coffee and an expanding tea list. Situated on the corner of Union Street, just diagonally opposite J.S. Grey Reserve, Jackson Dodds sits within easy reach of the 112 West Preston tram line’s final stop at Gilbert Road.
A Welcoming Community Hub for All Ages
During the week, local parents with toddlers, students, and nearby workers fill the space, while families gather on weekends. Breakfast offerings include authentic Village Bakers fruit loaf, creative omelettes, and ricotta pancakes served with crispy bacon and genuine Canadian maple syrup. For lunch, the popular choice is a hearty steak sandwich. Specials have included dishes like penne tossed with toasted breadcrumbs, bacon, chilli, peas, olive oil, and Grana Padano, as well as pea and haloumi fritters that celebrate cultural fusion.
Charming Touches and Family-Friendly Vibes
The café features a kiddies’ table, local photography, and vintage toy displays adorning the walls. On sunny days, outdoor seating is available, while the soundtrack blends new wave tunes with the lively chatter of little ones adding their own unique background noise.
