TL;DR

Sichuan flavours in a grand Melbourne mansion

Hidden in plain sight on St Kilda Road, Jishan Garden is where old-world elegance meets the bold, vibrant flavours of Sichuan cuisine. Set inside a restored 19th-century mansion, this fine dining spot offers a taste of southwestern China in Melbourne. Enjoy ornate interiors, grand parlours, and a beautiful garden setting.

At Jishan Garden, the Chef’s Banquet shines. This 13-course meal highlights Sichuan’s unique flavors. It uses top-notch Australian produce, including fresh local seafood. Expect dishes that balance heat, spice, and umami in ways that linger long after the last bite. Suppose you decide to go Γ  la carte. In that case, the portions are generous. Highlights include century egg with silken tofu, toothfish in yuzu soy sauce, crispy chicken ribs, and rich Sichuan bone marrow. A vegan banquet is also available, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

Jishan Garden has more than just food. It features a curated tea selection, served in exquisite ceramics that make tea drinking a true ritual. Whether you’ve opted for a banquet or are indulging in an elegant afternoon tea, the experience is as much about the presentation as it is about the flavour.

Modern chinese restaurant & event space

Jishan Garden is the vision of Vinica Zhang, a former luxury car dealer turned restaurateur with a deep passion for the interplay between Chinese and Australian cuisine. She collaborated with Chef Sean Deng, who has experience cooking in Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Japan. Together, they crafted a menu that honors tradition and embraces modern techniques.

Dine in Estella House, a cosy and beautifully decorated room. Or enjoy the changing seasons in the Willow Tree Garden. Jishan Garden is a beautiful event space. It can host weddings and celebrations for up to 150 guests.

This is not just a restaurantβ€”it’s a celebration of Sichuan’s culinary heritage, set against the grandeur of one of Melbourne’s historic mansions.
