A limestone-rich vineyard that’s been operating for almost 30 years. Each wine poured at this family-run cellar door was cultivated, made and bottled on-site. Expect unfined, unfiltered, whole bunch and wild ferments, alongside a line-up of shiraz, pinot noir and chardonnay.

The Lightfoot family bought its Myrtle Point property in 1993. It planted out 75 acres of vines on the limestone-rich cliffs above the farmed river plains below, where good rainfall and a helpful coastal breeze keep the vines healthy.

At first the family sold its grapes to others, but when son Tom Lightfoot moved home in 2008, the Lightfoots started making wine under their own label. They used an off-site winery for six years before building their own in 2014. Winemaker Alastair Butt moved to the region after 25 years working across the Yarra Valley and Hunter Valley, and Tom continues to assist him to vinify each vintage, while brother Rob handles sales and marketing.

All their wine is grown and made on-site, with some unfined, unfiltered, whole bunch and wild ferments among the line-up of shiraz, pinot noir and chardonnay. The knowledgeable staff can run you through a tasting before you take a seat on the verandah to admire the sweeping valley views with a glass of your favourite.

Try a cheese platter featuring Tarago River and Maffra cheeses with Metung olives, and don’t miss Sailors Grave Brewing’s beer fermented on Lightfoot chardonnay lees (residual yeast).
