Middle-of-the-road decor but exquisite food.

Tucked around the corner from the main Albert Park drag, Lord Cardigan may, on first appearance, seem a little solitary. You may also find yourself misled by its well-matched, unobtrusive and rather simple decor. But what this modestly sized restaurant lacks in visual aesthetics, it makes up for in exquisite food – which comes lovingly presented on a plate fit for a Lord.

Husband and wife, John Singer and Dominique Bolger, are the owners of this well-run restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner – just not every day. Breakfast comes as a weekend treat, while lunch can be enjoyed from Wednesday to Sunday and dinner Tuesday to Saturday.

Predominately modern Australian cuisine fills the menu, with notable influences from Asia and Europe providing a twist on classics. The pork, veal and pistachio nut terrine with duck liver parfait,
tamarillo chutney and crisp breads is exceptional, as is the Flinders Island lamb rump, roasted with root vegetables in a Moroccan and lemon oil.

If you’re looking for a calmer dining experience away from the bustle of nearby Victoria Avenue, Lord Cardigan will impress with thoughtfully prepared, exquisite dishes.
