Madonna Electric: A Pizzeria with a Spark
Madonna Electric is a fun, over-the-top pizzeria that does things a little differently. Instead of the usual woodfired pizzas youβll find around Melbourne, co-owners John Tummino and Rob Johnstone use an electric oven to cook their thin, crisp bases. The dough is made from just a few simple ingredients β flour, water, salt, oil and yeast β and left to rise slowly for up to three days, which gives it great flavour and texture.
Inventive Pizzas with Bold Personalities
Toppings are creative and full of personality. The Lucia Mia comes with sautΓ©ed leek, gorgonzola, mashed potato and smoked salt. The cheekily named Ma Va Faβ¦ LβAmericano mixes mozzarella, salami, jalapeΓ±os and spicy honey.
Another one, called This Saseech, skips tomato sauce entirely, swapping it for creamy white bean paste with cotechino sausage and pickled peppercorns. Thereβs even a fancy take on a Hawaiian pizza with smoked ham and caramelised pineapple. And if you donβt love crusts, theyβve got dipping sauces like gorgonzola and salsa verde to jazz them up.
Playful Drinks to Match the Mood
The drinks are just as playful. Try the Me Me Me Spritz with amaretto, cherry liqueur and ginger beer, or Hugo in Brunswick, which is light and floral with moscato, elderflower and prosecco.
For something extra fun, go for the Saint Maryβs Veil β itβs bright blue and topped with sweet cream.
A Space Thatβs Just as Fun as the Food
The space itself is packed with personality, too. Thereβs a neon-lit Virgin Mary at the back, surrounded by quirky vintage furniture and walls covered in decorative plates and portraits.
Itβs a pizzeria thatβs not afraid to stand out β just like its food.
