Main Ridge Estate: A Heritage Vineyard with a Family Heartbeat
Tucked into the hills of the Mornington Peninsula, Main Ridge Estate is one of the regionβs oldest vineyards β planted in 1975 and still fiercely independent. Rather than chasing expansion, this boutique winery has held firm to its origins, staying intimate, family-run, and deeply grounded in the landscape.
A New Chapter, Rooted in Legacy
In 2015, Tim and Libby Sexton took over the reins from founders Nat and Rosalie White, bringing their son James Sexton along for the journey. Once a sommelier at acclaimed Sydney restaurants Sepia and Oscillate Wildly, James now channels his palate into crafting the wines he once served.
The result? A tightly focused range of elegant pinot noir, chardonnay, and a standout pinot meunierβa varietal quietly cultivated here since the very beginning.
The Larder: Estate Dining, Unfussy and Refined
After a tasting, head to the estateβs on-site restaurant, The Larder, for a set menu that celebrates seasonal produce and local ingredients. The experience begins with shared startersβthink estate-marinated olives, hummus with pine nuts and sumac, or seared baby chorizo with roasted vine tomatoes.
Mains might include spanner crab pasties with aioli, grilled lamb loin with tzatziki, or a local cheese selection served simply but beautifully.
Golden Hour on the Patio
From 3pm to 5pm, the estate eases into sundowner mode. The vibe shifts: drinks and light bites, cheese boards, and tapas are served under sun umbrellas on the patio. With sweeping views over the vines and golden afternoon light, itβs one of the Peninsulaβs most peacefulβand picturesqueβspots to unwind.
