You haven’t seen a menu like this in Armadale, or anywhere else in Melbourne.

Tucked into a historic triangular building on the corner of Malvern Road and Beatty Avenue, Mammoth doubles as a pumping local hotspot, as well as a destination cafe in South Melbourne.

Since 2018, it’s been under the stewardship of owners Nick and Zack Beerens, who’ve continued the brief of serving classic breakfast items with a house twist. European cooking techniques combined with Asian and Middle Eastern flavours see avocado toast topped with a dukkah-crumbed egg and house-fermented chilli; and eggs benedict starring hoisin-braised pulled duck lashed with sriracha hollondaise.

The drinks offering is just as eclectic. Alongside espresso and batch brew by Inglewood Coffee, there’s Vietnamese-style iced coffee spiked with condensed milk; turmeric and matcha lattes; cold brew tonics and classic smoothies.

Designed by Techne Architecture + Interior Design and renovated in 2020, the plant-filled interior features baby blue detailing, a blacked-out ceiling and American oak furniture. Custom artworks by Brooke Holm and Maddie Gwynne adorn the walls and – thanks to the building’s striking triangular shape – light floods in from all sides.
