Owner Emma Nicholas-Jennis grew up in a gelato store. So she's spent most of her life making – and scooping – gelato. So it should come as little surprise that the gelato here is some of the best in town. All of the flavours here are worthwhile, but if you see the burnt fig – go for it.

Emma Nicholas-Jennings has spent a good portion of her life scooping gelato. Before she ever worked at her parents’ two gelaterias she was selling the frosty dessert at Brunetti in Carlton. Then followed 15 years in London, where she met her husband Gary, and managed a restaurant which served Spanish gelato. Together, they now own Miinot Gelato, in Pascoe Vale South.

Their store sports a relatively small selection of flavours, but all are exquisite. The basic fruits – lemon, or burnt fig for example – have an intensely natural taste, thanks to an all-fruit base. There’s even the occasional crunch of seed in the raspberry.

Apart from the bubblegum flavour – “for the kiddies” – there’s no pre-mixed paste here. Adults will love the fancier flavours, such as Nonno: marscapone with sultanas soaked in Pedro Ximenez sherry.
