Given its majestic façade, it’s no surprise that Mildura Brewery was once home to a well-appointed art deco cinema. But no less historic is the brewery’s own founding in late 2004 – well ahead of the Australian microbrewery boom. Started by chef Stefano di Pieri and his wife, Donata Carrazza, who run Italian institution Stefano’s right next door, the business is now owned by local beer company Broo Limited.

The generous array of taps showcase a core range of accessible styles, such as a honey wheat, pilsner, pale ale, lager and Australian-style draught, with seasonal brews rotating in and out year-round. Previous highlights include an English-style strong ale, a margarita gose, a strawberry witbier, and various stouts, which means there’s something for practically all tastes.

Still featuring original decorative panels from its cinema days, the brewery’s pub remains a steady lunch and dinner draw while offering an up-close look at its brewing operation. Aussie pub fare such as a burgers and steaks anchor the food menu, and a second-floor lounge offers a space to sample beers away from the restaurant setting. And once you’ve decided on your favourite brew (or two), takeaway is available on the spot.
