Remember the milk bar from your childhood? This isn’t quite it – but you’ll be pleased to know it’s serving brunches with roaming international influences, colourful smoothies and well-made coffee. Directly opposite the beach, footwear optional.

Remember the milk bar from your childhood, where a dollar could stretch forever? Ryan Barkley transformed this former milk bar into a cafe in 2014, but kept all the good nostalgic elements.

Inside, you’ll notice a lot of the original interiors are still in place. Modern pendant lights and white subway tiles complete the fit-out, with big windows for natural light. The original “Milkbar” sign from the ’80s is still intact, hanging on the wall in all its neon-blue glory.

While you can still grab a bag of lollies, there’s now an extensive breakfast menu too, which is available to takeaway as well. There’s charred broccolini with eggs; avocado smash with Persian feta and herbs; and the brioche French toast.

Quench your thirst with one of Milkbar & Co.’s freshly made smoothies, or a coffee made from Duke’s beans.
