A vibrant patisserie and cafe in Malvern’s back streets.

It’s hard to walk past Millstone cafe without having a peek through the window to see what line-up of patisseries are on offer for the day.

The quaint residential Claremont Street in Malvern is home to this vibrant cafe and French-style bakery by chef and owner Alice Wright. Having trained at The Cordon Bleu in Paris, Wright returned to give Malvern a taste of the classic French patisserie, with modern flair.

Days are consistently busy with a flurry of customers. Recommended treats include the glossy, salted caramel domes and the vanilla, lime and raspberry cheesecakes. The flaky croissants disappear quickly, as do the jam doughnuts.

Millstone is (almost) as much a draw for breakfast and lunch as it is for sweets. Lunchtime offers a pick-and-mix style feast that you can select from the scrawled specials on the hanging butcher’s paper – it might be a crispy-skin pork belly or a bright seasonal salad.

The interior is bright and cheerful with large prints by local illustrator Alice Oehr decorating the walls. However, the main focal point of the room is the beautiful cake cabinet, at which you’ll spend much time lingering.
