Housed within a traditional terrace, Milton Wine Shop is the kind of place where lo-fi and classic drops hold equal footing on the evolving wine list. When hunger strikes, there's a short list of seasonal snacks that pairs beautifully with whatever's pouring at the bar.

As the perimeters of Melbourne’s nightlife continue to expand into the suburbs, Milton Wines brings residents of the south-east a cosy bar with quality wines and indulgent cheese boards. Founders Lyndon Kubis (who also owns Toorak Wine Cellar) and Mark Nelson opened Milton together after recognising the potential local drinking holes have in residential areas.

The friendly and inviting atmosphere firmly establishes Milton Wines as a true local.

The building is a traditional terrace on Malvern Road. The open fires, warm timber finishes and Milton – Nelson’s dog who roams at your feet – are touches of homey charm. There is a strict “no wine snobbery” policy at the bar –customers are encouraged to ask questions and broaden their palates at their own pace without feeling self-conscious. Expect to fall down a vinuous rabbit hole as you explore the wealth of wines by niche producers, which includes many orange and biodynamic wines (although Milton doesn’t classify itself as a natural wine bar).

In addition to the main bar area is a spacious courtyard and a private living room-style space. When hunger strikes, there’s a short list of seasonal snacks that pairs beautifully with whatever’s pouring at the bar.
