Theme parks can be for adults, too. Moon Dog is decked out with a pool, hidden tiki disco bar, giant beer garden and an indoor waterfall – and it has capacity for 725 patrons. Enjoy bar snacks and the brewery’s eponymous brews poolside before testing your skills on the pinball machines.

Moon Dog World is just like the original bar in Abbotsford, but at a much larger scale. There are 72 beer taps, a waterfall, lagoon, tiki bar, beer garden, playground, elevated sun decks and hidden barrel-ageing room. All up, this warehouse can comfortably fit up to 725 patrons.

The food menu is as diverse as the venue itself, with plenty of options for vegans and coeliacs – though the overarching theme is definitely “drinking food”. The expected burgers and chippies are there, but so are falafels, roast chicken rolls, baby corn dogs, crisp Szechuan eggplant, pork or tofu bao, tuna sashimi, charcoal chicken, slow-cooked lamb shoulder, deep-fried buffalo cauliflower, pavlova, and two other desserts.

In the early days, Moon Dog catered almost exclusively for beer nerds with boozy imperial stouts, double IPAs and other challenging styles. That kind of stuff is still scribbled on the blackboards above the main bar, but there are also lagers, pilsners, pale ales and sours delicately fruited with the likes of rosemary and cherry.

Don’t leave without trying the barley champagne, a highly alcoholic yet lithe-bodied beer served in champagne flutes. Aperol spritzes, Espresso Martinis and El Diablos (tequila, blackcurrant, lime and ginger beer) are also available on tap.
