A grocer with good taste
This flagship location of Andrew McConnellβs groceryβcafΓ©βbakery sits just a few doors down from his Gertrude Street staples, Marion and Cutler & Co. The concept draws inspiration from European food markets and, fittingly, from the shelves of McConnellβs own pantry.
Curated shelves and kitchen staples
Minimalist shelving holds a curated mix of goodsβalternative milks alongside lemon marmalade and hibiscus mixers, fresh produce, Asian pantry staples, La Tortilleria tortillas, and Tuck Shop Takeawayβs signature tomato sauce. If youβve come up short at Bunnings, youβll even find tomato seedlings here, thanks to Ramarro Farm, plus alpine strawberry plants.
Daily bakes, sweet treats and sandwiches
The shop also offers daily Baker Bleu bread and pastries, generously sized $6 pizza squares, ready-made salads, and a selection of standout sandwiches. For something sweet, there are two-person cakes, including the ever-popular Marionβs Basque cheesecake. Coffee comes courtesy of Single O.
Picnic-ready and perfectly styled
For picnic lovers, rotating gourmet hampers are on offerβone might include a seeded baguette with cultured butter, burrata with caper and parsley salsa, prosciutto with pickled rockmelon, roast Bannockburn chicken with French breakfast radish, and raspberry tarts with vanilla cream. To complete the setup, you can also pick up Seljak wool picnic blankets and Stanley thermos flasks.
Produce meets polish
Visually, the space is a fresh blend of raw and refined. Sage-green tones pop against polished concrete floorsβfrom the feature wall stacked with bread to pyramids of broad beans and a striking display of globe artichokes. Citrus fruits are neatly arranged in wooden Rhone Valley wine crates atop a marble table, while spring snowballs and pink proteas overflow from galvanized steel buckets.
