A Pocket Café in a Parkside Hideaway
Parco sits on a traffic island just south of Carlton’s Argyle Place. In winter 2018, Jarrod Balme and Adrian Pagano (of roaming hotdog-cart fame Juan Fiddy) transformed an old power substation into a cosy café. With help from Therefore Studio, the space blends effortlessly with the neighbouring park — muted green benches, umbrellas, and a striking slab of forest-green marble beneath the front counter add polish while preserving the building’s character.
A Menu Made for the Outdoors
The compact menu is designed for easy, park-friendly eating. Standouts include a breakfast-style banh mi with maple-glazed bacon, fried egg, pickled carrot, coriander and miso mayo on a brioche bun. Other options include brioche toast with ricotta and jam, or house-made granola with yoghurt, rhubarb and fresh apple. You’ll also find Dench pastries on offer.
Great Coffee, Sweet Touches
Coffee is supplied by Coffee Supreme in Abbotsford, hot chocolate comes from Koko Black, and milkshakes are available in nostalgic flavours like Oreo and blue heaven. In winter, blankets are offered for chilly mornings. Come summer, they break out the bocce sets and picnic rugs, perfect for enjoying the sunshine.
