Retro rockets & levantine pours
Named after the Lebanese Rocket Societyβa 1960s university club that once dreamed of joining the space raceβthis neighbourhood wine bar by Joseph and Nat Abboud (of Rumi fame) brings that same spirit of ambition and nostalgia to life in Brunswick East.
Sondwishe by day, charcoal by night
By day, the focus is on sondwishe (flatbread sandwiches), each named after one of the four Lebanese rockets launched between 1962 and 1963. Fillings might include fried potato with toum and pickles, kafta-style lamb, or shredded chicken with bastourma. After dark, the charcoal grill takes over. Think lamb with carob molasses, sweetbread skewers, and smoky house-made flatbread, plus playful bites like the HSP croquette.
Lifted by the wine list
The wine list spans 50 bottles, from indigenous Lebanese grapes to minimal-intervention Aussie and Moroccan pours. Cocktails nod to the barβs celestial themeβexpect clever riffs on the Aviation and Paper Plane. For the zero-proof crowd, try the Life on Mars (orange, lime, basil) or a sparkling yerba matΓ© from Supermate.
Space-age soul
Mid-century red leather booths, chequerboard tiles, and vintage Rocket Society photos set the tone. Personal touchesβlike 1972 Berlin-made wooden speakers and a communal table salvaged from the original Rumiβadd warmth and character.
