Slow fashion endures at Swensk. Since opening in 2008, the boutique has stuck closely to a small roster of Swedish brands that eschew trends for long-lasting design.
Rather than picking bits and pieces from a multitude of brands, owners Mats Ekstrom and Jane Matthews prefer to hold full ranges from eight select designers: Filippa K, J Lindeberg, BLK DNM, Whyred, Tiger of Sweden, Uniforms for the Dedicated, HOPE, and Odeur Studio.
Men’s and women’s clothing is housed on the ground floor in a stylish white-washed space, surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows. A seven-metre-high ceiling allows for a mezzanine office space, where regular customers are invited to fire off work emails, should they tire of relying on cafe Wi-Fi.
Ekstrom and Matthews aim to offer a solution for every occasion. That’s apparent in the comprehensive range of clothing covering quality basics, to socks, jeans, dresses, suits, shoes, bags and even a board short or two.
In typical Swedish fashion, the best pieces appear deceptively simple, but will stick in your wardrobe for their ability to effortlessly toggle between work and play.
