A new hidden gem from semir elamazi
Semir Elamazi (of Dosage and Second Wife fame) has a knack for creating hidden-gem cafes. His first venture, Hyde n Seekβnow under new ownershipβwas tucked away in the backstreets of Ashwood. With The Foreigner in Ivanhoe, he brings a similarly discreet charm.
Bold walls, global feel
Inside, the space features mostly semi-exposed brickwork, anchored by a striking feature wall showcasing a vibrant world map by Melbourne artist Danielle Weber.
A menu with middle eastern roots
This global inspiration carries through to the menu, which leans into Elamaziβs Middle Eastern roots. A standout is the Breakfast HSPβa creative twist on the classic halal snack packβstacked with pulled lamb, rosemary and thyme potatoes, toasted soldiers, and poached eggs, all finished with garlic, smoky BBQ, and chilli sauces. Come lunchtime, the spotlight shifts to Hump It Up, a camel burger layered with pickled carrot, radish, cucumber, coriander, mint, Kewpie mayo, and Sriracha.
Local coffee, global flavour
Coffee is sourced from Industry Beans, tea from Sassafras Tea Leaves, and fresh juices are made in-house. For something sweet, the counter cabinet is stocked with desserts by Proof is in the Pudding.
