At this art deco pub, you’re just as likely to catch scruffy rockers playing in the front bar as you are a bijou wedding in the gorgeous dining hall. This place is a beautiful mixed bag, just like Coburg itself. If you’re eating here, expect elegant pub dishes and a specials board devoted to gnocchi.

The Post Office Hotel was last renovated in 2010. That project breathed new life into the dilapidated Art Deco building, restoring or updating the original features. These days it still feels like a classic pub, with only the important stuff freshened up.

Case in point: the menu of crispy-based pizzas and better-than-average pub fare, including the patented Post Office Coburger: a beef-and-bacon burger served with all the trimmings and a special house-made sauce. Most menu items can be customised to be gluten-free or vegan. Local wine fills the cellar; and a rotating selection of Aussie beers is always on tap.

Different genres of live music play in the front bar on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. It’s from mostly local artists, through internationals come through sporadically. Out back is an expansive beer garden to rival any in Melbourne, complete with a working barbeque.

Next to the pub is an even newer add-on: the Dining Hall. Open for dinner Wednesday to Sunday and lunch on the weekends, the slightly more upmarket space is lined with leather booths, a fireplace, recycled timber tables and hanging pendant lights.
