Victorian-era lodgings with modern-day perks.

This charming heritage accommodation is set down a quiet street in the riverside town of Bairnsdale. Made up of two former family homes that were originally built in 1884, The Riversleigh has preserved many of its charming period fittings and matched this with luxe mod cons.

When you follow the winding driveway to the parking at rear, the first thing you’ll spot is a Tesla electric vehicle charger. And if you’ve been out bush for days, the comfortable king-sized, roomy bathroom (complete with spa and robes to lounge in), Netflix and fast wi-fi will feel utterly luxurious.

Downstairs, you can order coffee and cake (or a local wine) in the bar and enjoy these on the front terrace where there’s original terrazzo paving underfoot and a cumquat tree above. Come morning, the team’s country warmth is a pleasant wake-up and there’s a banquet of breakfast items waiting.

After you’ve loaded up on delicious sourdough, make sure to take a walk along the Mitchell River nearby, where you can learn the history of the Gunaikurnai peoples.
