A Music Loverβs Sanctuary
With shelves stacked floor-to-ceiling with vinyl and books, The Searchers is as close to a real-life music library as it gets. Tucked into the corner of bustling Smith and Gertrude streets in Collingwood, the shop has a warm, intimate feel. Custom shelving makes the most of the space, and if somethingβs out of reach, thereβs a rolling ladder ready to help you get to it.
From Bookstore to Vinyl Treasure Trove
Since taking over in 2012, Sam Perry (bassist for local indie band Architecture in Helsinki) and Jakob Schmitt have added more than 5000 records, transforming what was once a bookshop into a haven for vinyl lovers. The stock β both new and used β is sourced from across Australia, Europe, the US and Japan, with prices ranging from $1 to $400.
For Every Genre and Budget
Expect everything from jazz and rock to krautrock and calypso. There are bargain crates in the back for $5, and if youβre looking to sell, you might get a fair deal for your own collection. Youβll also find vintage turntables, cartridges and styli.
Books, Art, and Culture
Books remain an important part of the store, mostly second-hand and handpicked through travel and donations. The range spans classic and contemporary titles, with a strong focus on music, film and the arts.
