After years of trying to find the right house to fit their furniture, Jacqui Matters and Jamie Beard thought they’d find a way to fit furniture to houses.
The result is White Water: a homewares store focused on enhancing small-scale living, without compromising aesthetic. The Smith Street space is tiny, yet houses a sizeable collection of chic, multi-functional fittings.
Most days, it’s also home to Claude, the duo’s affectionate French bulldog. His likeness was imprinted on the front door by artist Kitt Bennett.
Furniture is by Danish brand Menu. It combines soft, simple lines with versatile colours. Whether your walls are pink or tan, these pieces are likely to match. Stools, tables and racks come in all shapes and dimensions, and if there’s any specific size you need, White Water can get it made.
Handwashes, candles and ornaments also line the store’s walls. An array of locally made beauty products (for both men and women) add further depth to the shelves.
A shift to smaller, adaptive living may be where we’re headed in the future. With its practical homewares, White Water is here to make it that bit easier.
