Yering Station planted its first vines in 1838, making it Victoria’s oldest vineyard, and one of the oldest in Australia.

Outside, you’re greeted with elm trees that have been growing on the property since the 1800s. A pretty pond sits between the manicured front lawn and the striking arched building that houses the restaurant.

Half a dozen or so contemporary sculptures dot the property as you make your way inside. The dining room is wide and expansive, providing all 120 guests a great view panoramic view out across the Yarra Valley. The high curved timber ceiling is reminiscent of a wine barrel.

The set-menu changes every three months with the seasons. It’s an elegant European-leaning menu with all of the winery restaurant classics – you’ll usually find duck leg, barramundi and wagyu fillet and a seasonal vegetarian dish on the main course line-up.

Wine tastings take place in the heritage-listed Cellar Door; a separate rustic building that was once the original winery on the estate in the 1800s. Look closely to spot the trap doors that winemakers used to pass their grapes through. Today the space also acts as an art gallery, with commissions donated to charity.
