A legacy of lebanese baking
Since brothers Charlie and Jeff Elrahi took over Zaatar in 2015, not much has changedβand thatβs exactly the charm. This Lebanese bakehouse was started by the sons of Chafic Choueiri, founder of Brunswickβs iconic A1, and shares that same strong community spirit that doesnβt need reinventing.
Simple pies, bold flavours
The pie selection is simple but satisfying. The classic Zaatar highlights the namesake spice blendβthyme, sesame seeds, oregano, sumac, salt, and olive oil. For something bolder, thereβs the Shanklish, filled with aged cowβs cheese, tomato, and onion, and even a playful east-meets-west take featuring Vegemite and haloumi.
A menu made to share
Beyond pies, the menu spans pizzas, mezze, dips, and saladsβall designed to be mixed and matched. Think kibbeh and sambousek with hummus and fattoush, or falafel with eggplant dip and tabouli.
The mighty zoccacia
Zaatarβs signature creation is the βZoccaciaββa hefty, folded and toasted sandwich packed with fillings like soujok (spiced Turkish sausage), haloumi, kofte, or bastourma (sweet, smoky cured beef).
Eat in or take home
The bright, open space seats around 85, anchored by a striking communal table inlaid with Moroccan tiles. Once youβve eaten in, itβs worth browsing the selection of takeaway items to enjoy later.
