David Zhou’s Oriental Tea House on Chapel Street is a popular spot to meet for a few steamers of dumplings before migrating to the nearby bars. Or, after stuffing yourself full of dumplings, move upstairs to Zhou Zhou, a modern, Chinese-style lounge open Wednesday to Sunday.

Fitted out by Hecker Guthrie, Zhou Zhou has a distinctly chilled vibe, where people can help themselves to cutlery and kick back at a table or a wicker lounge set, surrounded by mosaic murals. Despite the relaxed atmosphere, as with all Zhou’s venues, the hospitality is friendly yet sharp.

It was a natural extension for Zhou to expand from the restaurant business into a bar. At Zhou Zhou it is the beer list that is particularly impressive, with just over 50 craft ales on the menu, selected from places as far reaching as Nagano, Japan and as close to home as Heidelberg. There’s a snacky menu to help sustain you as you work through the beer selection – mostly dumplings.
